Scholarships
There are various scholarships available both at the parish and state levels for qualifying 4-H members. The scholarship application is very similar to an annual portfolio, but it details all high school 4-H participation for members. It's important to keep accurate 4-H records for this reason. It will make applying for scholarships much easier. The scholarship application is available online. Seniors should contact Ms. Laynie to receive the application link. The application should be filled out online and a hard copy should be brought to the extension office to be sent to Baton Rouge. The same application is used to judge both parish and state level scholarships; therefore, it is important that seniors apply even if they don't think they qualify for a state level scholarship. Many parish scholarships have either all gone to the same person or completely not used due to a lack of applications being turned in. Please contact Ms. Laynie with any questions about the scholarship application process. The scholarship application deadline is February 25.
Honor Cords
Seniors may qualify to receive an honor cord depending on their 4-H involvement. In order to receive a graduation cord, graduating seniors must apply by filling out a short form that gets turned into the state office. Not all seniors will qualify. Listed below are the requirements to receive a 4-H graduation cord. The deadline to submit an application for a 4-H cord is January 15. Contact Ms. Laynie for the link to apply.
Be a currently enrolled 4-H member and in good standing
Must be a graduating senior
Must have been enrolled in 4-H for at least 3 years of their high school career
Must have participated in at least one state sponsored 4-H program in the past 3 years, or demonstrated exemplary parish-level program involvement
Must complete the application form by the deadline
*Since the honor cord is awarded from the state level, it is VERY important that seniors apply before the deadline. Parish offices do not receive extras to give out at the last minute. Only students who apply are able to wear a cord.
