Forces
Essential Standards
Section 3.1
Students will be able to Define Newton’s second law of motion
SWBAT Apply newton’s 2nd law of motion
SWBAT Describe the three different types of friction
SWBAT Observe the effects of air resistance on falling objects
Main Learning Target # 1 -I can differentiate between balanced and unbalanced forces using explanations and force diagrams
Section 3.2
SWBAT Describe the gravitational force.
SWBAT Distinguish between mass and weight
SWBAT Explain why objects that are thrown will follow a curved path
SWBAT Compare circular motion with motion in a straight line
Main Learning target # 2 - I can diagram projectile motion relating the horizontal and vertical velocities to the motion of the object
Section 3.3
SWBAT State Newton’s third law of motion
SWBAT Identify action and reaction forces.
SWBAT Calculate momentum
SWBAT Recognize when momentum is conserved
Main learning target # 3 - I can evaluate scenarios in order to justify which of Newton’s Laws are in action and explain momentum.
Main Learning target # 4 - . I can construct a device that will mitigate the force felt by an occupant inside during a collision. This device will be diagramed and explained using the terms air resistance, momentum, each of Newton’s Laws in order to justify the design. (egg drop lab)
