Semester 1 - Physics Basics

This will lead them to understand how science is used to answer questions

Students will explore units and measurement. This will lead them to understand how standards and units are important in discussing scientific ideas.

Lesson 3: Communicating with Graphs

Students will explore how graphs present information. This will lead them to understand how to both read and communicate with graphs

Lesson 4: Science and Technology

Students will explore technology as the application of science. This will lead them to understand the driving forces behind technological advancement.

Module 2: Motion

Students will learn how physicists describe motion, as well as how to determine velocity, momentum, and acceleration.

Lesson 1: Describing Motion

Students will explore position and motion. This will lead them to understand how to describe where an object is and how it is moving….

Lesson 2: Velocity and Momentum

Students will explore velocity and momentum. This will lead them to understand that an object’s velocity and momentum can change even if it maintains its speed.

Lesson 3: Acceleration

Students will explore changes in velocity and acceleration. This will lead them to understand that an object's arc can be described with constant acceleration.

Module 3: Forces and Newton’s Laws

Students will learn how forces and motion are related, including Newton’s three laws of motion, They will apply Newton’s laws to understand and predict changes in motion for different objects.

Lesson 1: Forces

Students will explore types and characteristics of forces. This will lead them to understand that the mass of an object affects the forces on it.

Lesson 2: Newton’s Laws of Motion

Students will explore Newton’s Laws of motion. This will lead them to understand how his laws describe how forces move objects.

Lesson 3: Using Newton’s Laws

Students will explore the interactions between force, acceleration, and momentum. This will lead them to understand how to describe and predict the motion of objects.
