Top 10 Tips for Year 6 Exhibition

Our Community Project was to assist the Year 6s of QBS for their Year 6 Exhibition. We chose this as we knew from our experiences that the Year 6 Exhibition was quite stressful and was a lot of work back then. We created a Top 10 video on the Year 6 exhibition based on their questions and their needs and also from our experiences. We wanted to help the Year 6s by giving them a better understand of the exhibition, skills they may need and to make it less stressful for them.

Life In Poverty

Homeless people are vulnerable during the pandemic. They often do not have enough money or resources to protect themselves from getting Covid-19. Many are on the street, which is one of the most vulnerable places during Covid-19. For our community project, we organised a donation campaign to collect resources for the homeless, these resources being masks, hand sanitisers, toothbrushes/toothpastes, and towels.

Disability Is Not Inability

Our goal is to ensure that all people with disabilities can receive help, support, and care they require, and feel more included in the community. We want to encourage and support them by alleviating the stigma, neglect, social isolation, and discrimination associated with people with disabilities by partnering and collaborating with an NGO, aspiring to combat these issues, to assist the work of others involved in improving health globally.

Our project involved creating awareness and raising funds for The Hong Kong Society For Rehabilitation by selling handmade, environmentally friendly tie-dyed tote bags and bracelets in the colours of blue (to represent cognitive impairments) and green (to represent physical impairments) for people to show their support for people with disabilities. Through making the products from scratch and selling them at school, we raised a total of HKD$4491.20.

Plastic Pollution In Hong Kong

To clean up plastic waste within facilities in Hong Kong to help the environmental state of it. Over the course of 2 weeks, our team has gone to 3 different beaches and parks within Hong Kong and decided to clean up plastic waste within its facility to help clean up its current environmental state. If you didn't know, plastic waste in Hong Kong is a major issue and needs to be put to a halt. Our indirect service has made sure to keep our facilities clean and comfortable to be around, and hopefully inspire others to take action too.

If you want to take action too, there are more ways to help than you'd expect. You could reuse, reduce and recycle, you could clean up plastic waste from time to time, try and find different uses for plastic waste, and more!

Financial & Wealth Gap

Our project was about spreading awareness on the severity of financial issues in Hong Kong and how it relates to poverty. We realised how financial issues and poverty are closely related so we decided to work on both aspects. We conducted research about this issue, to plan what to do as ‘action’. We wanted to focus on direct action as an example and to also get a close-up insight to people who struggle on a daily basis with financial issues. We decided that we wanted to deliver food to the homeless.

Mitigating The Effects Of Gambling On Society

To educate the public on the effects of gambling through social media and articles whilst providing a new and innovative solution to mitigate the effects of gambling. Our project places emphasis on giving meaning to the effects of gambling on a societal and global level we managed to achieve this by setting up a social media account, initiating 7 filled lessons as a course on gambling and its detrimental effects, whilst also providing very enticing and easy to read articles on gambling that the internet is lacking.

In addition to this, we have also fully built a fully functional website from scratch using HTML and javascript to provide a platform in which would bridge all gambling-related materials. We have also developed a new scheme called the track and scan initiative in which we hope would act as the forefront of a new trend to mitigate the effects of gambling using technology.

Digital Well-Being

The project was to help Year 7 and 8 students get off their screens during some break times. When looking through our data for our research, we were very concerned about the amount of time students would spend on digital devices during their break and lunch periods. We felt that if we created some games for the students to play that would give them an opportunity to take their eyes off their screens.

Plastic Pollution In Hong Kong

To inform and educate the public about plastic pollution so that we can reduce the amount of plastic pollution in Hong Kong to make it a cleaner and more enjoyable place.

For our community project we decided to research about the main causes of plastic pollution so that we could tackle it through our action. After finding out that the public was not well informed enough we decided to take some action by doing some beach clean-ups to set an example of what people should do as well as creating a video to inform the public about what they should be doing. We also created Instagram posts so that we could reach a wide community of people to let them know what our project was about.

Game Stand

The main goal of our project was to make people around the school happier. We achieved this goal by setting up a game stand for our classmates to come to during break. Our service was successful as most of the students that came to our game stand felt more motivated, focused and relaxed after coming.

Advocate and raise awareness for sustainable infrastructure in Hong Kong. In order to fulfil our goal, we decided to make a video on the topic of sustainability. Sustainability Through Fashion

For our community project, we worked on the fashion industry and how damaging it can be. From the underpaid workers in sweatshops to consumerism, we aim to promote upcycling and to help other students make better decisions when it comes to their clothing options. Our action for our project was to raise awareness on this topic, and to promote upcycling. We created a trendy fashion collection all made from old clothes, curtains, and other scrap material you can find in your household. We displayed these clothes in the foyer, with a poster to inform others on the issue of fashion waste.

Recycling

We chose to help raise awareness about the huge problem we face known as waste and garbage for our project. We researched more about the topic and to learn in what ways we could help raise awareness and make a difference ourselves. We were able to work together with an NGO called HKCleanUp and managed to clean up 3 beaches while also posting information on our social media to raise awareness. We observed the situation in the buildings that we lived in to find out how much recyclable garbage there is. We made a survey to learn more about the situation among the students to find out more about the problem.

Rubbish On Hikes

For our project, we chose the global context of ‘Globalisation and Sustainability’ with a focus on waste, outdoors. We did trail and beach clean-ups and our goal was to improve the habitat for wildlife and also make it more enjoyable for visitors of these communities. Our aim was to clean up the area so that people find it more enjoyable and to help people understand, if an area is clean, please don’t litter.

Reduce Poverty In Hong Kong

Our project is about reducing the amount of poverty in Hong Kong. As we know the poverty line in Hong Kong is increasing more and more each year, we decided to offer support to different organisations that help with poverty. For our project, we worked with Oxfam and Foodlink. We placed boxes in our residential buildings to ask people to donate some food. After a week, we collected all the items in the boxes and packed them, and passed it to the Foodlink. In addition, we also interviewed Oxfam over the phone and asked questions about how we could reduce poverty.
