As an administrator focused on teacher development, the teaching aspect of working in schools should allow for some individuality as well as keeping in mind best practices. On this page you will see four samples of work that I have done that deals directly with aspects of teaching.
Our students often represent a diverse group of kids. Here is an Infograph that I created to show various ways to think critically about teaching a diverse student body. These critical theories question whose "truth" we present in the classroom- an important question to ask ourselves so as to create an unbiased environment.
I've spent some time contemplating creativity in teaching. I've created a Weebly site that showed some of the creative ways to represent magic realism, a literary genre that I often teach in higher level Spanish courses. Magic realism was a great theme to work with for it is literature that is based in reality but with fantastic elements.
Atul Gawande was an author that really spoke to me in his book Better. Though the book was written regarding the medical field, I found that the lessons could be transposed to other fields, including education. What really stood out was that diligence, ingenuity, and morality mattered little if one did not want to be better. You can read my thoughts here.
Technology was a common theme is some of the work that I've read and wrote about it and I would be remiss if I did not include a piece that deals with technology. The first part of this piece regards Hamlet's Blackberry and the author's treatment of technology. The second part is focused on how technology shapes the mind and is the part that I believe should be considered in teaching, especially in the 21st century.
