NP Play

In February of 2023 our students brought to life the legendary figure of Robin Hood in a stirring English-language play. After a couple years of the NP play being held off-stage due to COVID-19, the school community rejoiced at the return of this beloved tradition.

This was more than a mere school play. It symbolised hope and resilience in the face of prolonged adversity and stood as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Dara community in these trying times. With Robin Hood, an emblematic figure of English folklore, at its heart, the play embodied the cross-cultural exchange that Dara NP values so dearly.

Starring a diverse ensemble of Thai students of all levels - from prathom to mathyaom- and guided by both native English speaking and Thai teachers, the production showcased the students' English-speaking abilities, their dedication to mastering a non-native language, and their commendable ability to embody characters from a cultural heritage foreign to them.

As the curtains rose, the familiar tale of Robin Hood - the heroic outlaw known for "robbing from the rich to give to the poor" - unfolded. However, it was retold with an infusion of Thai cultural nuances, creating an innovative fusion of Western folklore and Eastern storytelling techniques. The result was a vibrant, memorable spectacle that brought together two distinct cultures. Both teachers and students were well entertained for the multiple showings of the play over the course of three days.

See below for some pictures of our wonderful students! As usual, we could not thank our Thai teachers enough. They worked so hard to prepare coreography, costumes and intangible detaisl throughout the production process. We could not do anything without them. We are already looking forward to our next NP play - part of our wider NP fair - next year.
