Greetings! My name is Sean McLeod, and this year I have the privilege of teaching M6 EE. I’m originally from Scotland and graduated from high school there, but went on to obtain my bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from the University of British Columbia in Canada. After graduating I was lucky enough to live in Spain, Portugal, New Zealand and the United States before receiving my TEFL certificate in 2024.
Following my receipt of the TEFL certificate I went on to teach in Ha Tinh province, in central Vietnam for a year. Compared to the other places I’ve lived it was certainly a bit different, but culture shock aside it was a great experience. Now I’m here in Chiang Mai to put my experience to use, while having the privilege to see more of the world.
So far, teaching at Dara Academy has been a tremendous time and it’s been great getting to know my students. In my lessons I try to focus on eliciting information and team games, so as to encourage as many students as possible to take part.
Outside of school, I have been trying to see as much of the city and its myriad of cafes as possible. On rainy days I practice my website development skills, write articles for my obscure blog and am slowly trying to get to the point that I can actually hold a conversation in Thai. I’ll confess that it’s been slow going, but the experience is a good reminder of how tricky learning a language can be!
