This exhibition happened at a particularly pivotal, painful time – the far-right riots across the country in summer 2024 have shaped the work produced here. Politicians and mainstream media, as well as racist opportunists spreading disinformation online, have spewed forth anti-migrant rhetoric that means violent white people have felt justified and emboldened in blaming Black and Brown people for systemic problems caused by deliberate political choices.
Please note: Global Majority audiences should be aware that this exhibition and work will contain upsetting language regarding racism and the mistreatment of Black and brown people.
Nevertheless, this is also an exhibition of love, solidarity and connection.
“We understand artistic and cultural production to be a tool of resistance: a battlefront in the struggle and a primary site of political engagement. Historically, arts and culture have served as forms of sustenance and unity, creating shared identity and collective consciousness as a rejection of attempts to fragment the Palestinian people…..Through the creative production process itself that individuals can reach a heightened level of political consciousness.”
