Norwood TAG Programming - Program Description & Goals

Grades 3-8:

Pull-Out Services

Students formally identified as Gifted and Talented participate in at least two pull-out sessions per week. These sessions involve interdisciplinary curricular units of study, enabling students to delve deeper into subjects, collaborate with peers, and tackle advanced concepts.

Students in grades 5-8 participate in blended-grade enrichment clusters centered around specific themes or interests. These clusters allow students to engage in long-term projects, explore their passions, and develop advanced skills within a collaborative environment.

Push-In Services

When required, the gifted and talented teacher integrates into general education. This push-in model enhances learning for targeted students and complements their regular classroom experience.

Outreach and Competitions

Students in grades 3-8 have opportunities to participate in outreach experiences and various competitions. These activities offer additional intellectual challenges and the chance to connect with academic peers beyond the regular classroom setting.

Grades K-2: Small Group Enrichment

Students engage in activities designed to develop both divergent and convergent thinking. Divergent thinking activities encourage exploration of multiple solutions and creative thinking, while convergent thinking focuses on narrowing down and selecting the best solution. The curriculum also emphasizes open-ended problem-solving, presentation skills, and cooperative learning. The curriculum incorporates STEM fundamentals through engaging, hands-on activities.

- We provide identified gifted students with opportunities to engage in in-depth learning that aligns with their unique abilities and areas of interest. Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs) are developed for each student, ensuring a tailored educational experience that nurtures both academic growth and personal passion.

Nurture Lifelong Learners

- Our program emphasizes the development of essential thinking dispositions and affective skills, such as curiosity, risk-taking, and intrinsic motivation. These traits are fostered through cross-disciplinary innovation projects and exposure to global learning opportunities, preparing students to become independent, lifelong learners with a broad perspective.

Maximize Academic Potential

- We aim to fully develop the academic abilities of gifted learners by offering rigorous and differentiated learning experiences. Our approach includes mentorship programs with professionals, providing real-world insights and practical experience that extend beyond the classroom.

Promote Peer Interaction

- We encourage meaningful interactions with academic peers, helping students develop self-awareness, self-efficacy, and a strong sense of identity. This is achieved through student-led conferences, showcases, and collaborative networks with other schools, offering students a broader community of like-minded individuals.

Enhance Social and Leadership Skills

- The program is designed to cultivate social and leadership abilities while instilling a sense of societal responsibility. Service-learning projects that align with students' interests allow them to apply their skills to benefit the community, fostering a deep connection to societal needs.
