Task 3 - Exploring of Photographic Conventions and established practice

This task will involve analysing images to identify photographic conventions and applying this research

to your own drawing study (your own photographs).

Introduction of Artist model as Influence - Still life

Class selected artist model- Irving Penn

Look at the information provided on Irving Penn and identify their working style and key features about

their work. Include the following on your website:

a. A brief overview of his working style using the resources and images provided identifying the

key features of his work.

b. Select 2 images by the artist and include the title of the works.

c. Annotate 1 image visually showing the conventions used by the artist and upload to your

website. (You will have guidelines on how to do this on a separate sheet and complete this as a

class activity).

Still life artist model:

Irving Penn: 

• all laid out the same

• digitally photographed

• unique 

•  done in both colour and black white 

KEY FEATURES:

• layed out similar in almost every picture 

• uses the same background, different image but it being blurred out is the same 

• all using Japanese items in his photographs 

• family photos/ pictures of family in the blurred image 

• in all three pictures above he has some sort of authority about family.
