First shoot on theme for the year - Theme investigation

Ideas. 

I want to experiment with using the camera and finding my own personal style, while also taking inspiration from artist models Tom Wood and Tatum Shaw. I will shoot inside the kindergarten

Evaluation - What worked? What didn't, how could this be improved? What are you going to do next time to extend your idea?

This shoot was done over two seperate days, the first without the children and second during the students school day. It was very nostalgic visiting, especially when there were children there. Their activities brought back many fond memories for me. I remember performing dances in fairy wings, much like the girls did for me and drawing tadpoles and other animals brought in by the staff at Matapihi.

Evaluation - What worked? What didn't, how could this be improved? What are you going to do next time to extend your idea?Although it was an overcast day the exposure of images was high and the photos turned out brighter than I wanted. I would like to take shots that show the wider surroundings next time- rather than zooming in on each photo. I could also attempt to edit photos and change the exposure to create nicer images.

I used colourful objects- crayons and a wooden toy, both from my childhood. I struggled to find a backdrop that worked well and decided to use a plain white background. I first used a fabric backdrop then, shiny then plain plastic which worked best. I used a small light from different directions to create shadows from my objects. I preferred my photos in colour than in black and white. To further extend my idea I would like to use harsher lighting and more objects in the frame.

It took me a while to think of small objects that related to my images but eventually I decided on colourful sea creatures- like the children play with, because the photo is of a jellyfish made by the children. For the image of the pirate hook I used gold costume jewllery, like the children playing pirates were collecting.
