Improvements at Each School
West Deptford High School
Renovate existing space and expand the music wing by 4,000 square feet. This would provide much-needed space for the district’s band and choir programs including appropriate facilities for music instruction, practice and instrument storage.
Refurbish the auditorium, which has not been renovated since the mid 1990s and is used by the entire district and the community. This would include replacing audience seating, installing new stage curtains and drapes, replacing the ceiling and lighting in the audience area, replacing floor and wall finishes, and replacing stage lighting and rigging. Plans call for the district to hire a specialized acoustical engineer for this renovation.
Update the boys’ locker room, which has not been renovated since the school opened in 1960. This would include redesigning the shower and restroom areas and replacing old lockers and benches.
Update the gymnasium by replacing malfunctioning bleachers, adding air conditioning, replacing gym dividers, replacing six basketball backstops and repainting the gym ceiling.
Resurface the tennis courts and track which are showing evidence of heavy use. This would include resurfacing the top level of the tennis courts and replacing the base level and top level of the track. These improvements would create a safer environment for physical education classes, school sports teams, and community use.
Replace outdated communications systems with systems that offer emergency notifications, first responder contact and single-button access.
Replace outdated HVAC systems with modern versions that offer programmable controls, electrical upgrades to improve energy efficiency.
Upgrade mechanical and electrical systems and install programmable controls to maximize energy efficiency for boilers and hot water piping.
Replace roof under solar panels and above gym storage area. This will involve removing those panels and reinstalling them after the work is complete.
Replace dust collector in wood shop to improve air quality.

The auditorium, last updated in the 1990s, is used by all schools in the district and by the community.
Renovation and expansion of the high school music wing would reflect West Deptford’s award-winning music programs.
West Deptford Middle School
Renovated science labs, in use since the 1970s, would help teaching to current state standards and encourage STEM learning.
Updating the girls’ locker room, in use since the school first opened, would create a more modern and functional space to meet the needs of today’s physical education and athletics programs.
Renovate science labs, in use since the 1970s, to ensure students have the tools they need to explore, experiment, and excel in STEM subjects. Many of the lab workstations are not functioning properly, making it difficult to teach to current state standards. (See how new science labs will inspire curiosity and promote hands-on learning in this brief video.)
Update the girls’ locker room, which has not been renovated since the school opened, including reconfiguring the space and replacing all lockers, benches and flooring.
Replace outdated communications systems with systems that offer emergency notifications, first responder contact and single-button access.
Replace roofing under solar panels in the school’s classroom wings. This will involve removing those panels and reinstalling them after the work is complete.
Upgrade mechanical and electrical systems and install programmable controls to maximize energy efficiency for boilers and hot water piping.
Replace air condition units to provide more comfortable learning environments and improve energy efficiency.
Green-Fields Elementary School
Install an elevator to enhance accessibility, meet ADA standards and ensure that all students and staff can navigate the school. Its two-level design forces the shuffling of teachers and classes when someone has a temporary or permanent mobility issue.
Upgrade mechanical and electrical systems and install programmable controls to maximize energy efficiency for the Media Center and All-Purpose Room.
Replace outdated communications systems with systems that offer emergency notifications, first responder contact and single-button access.
Replace deteriorated equipment on two playgrounds to meet safety and age-appropriate standards. Playground No. 1 near the end of Meadow Lane and Playground No. 3 that nears Redwood Lane would both be improved.
Install a metal roof and reglaze glass to repair the Solarium roof, which would improve energy efficiency and the look of this architectural feature. The glass is cloudy, there are leaks and aluminum pieces are corroded.
Installing an elevator in Green-Fields Elementary School would enhance accessibility.
Infrastructure improvements at Oakview Elementary would create more comfortable learning environments and enhance energy efficiency.

Replace outdated communications systems with systems that offer emergency notifications, first responder contact and single-button access.
Upgrade mechanical and electrical systems and install programmable controls to maximize energy efficiency for boilers and hot water piping.
Red Bank Elementary School
Replace outdated communications systems with systems that offer emergency notifications, first responder contact and single-button access.
Upgrade mechanical and electrical systems and install programmable controls to maximize energy efficiency for boilers and hot water piping.
Replace air condition units to provide more comfortable learning environments and improve energy efficiency. That would include the areas that house technology systems, which require a lower temperature than classrooms.
