This is my 12th year teaching and my 7th year at West Deptford! GO EAGLES!!! I have a Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University in Music and Theatre and am working on my Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership from Strayer University. I come from a family of musicians! My mother is a High School Music Teacher in Burlington County and my younger sister and brother are both in college to become music teachers! My husband and I live in South Jersey with our 4 awesome kids. As Maria in the Sound of Music would say.....some of my FAVORITE things are: Target, Starbucks, Take 5 Candy Bars, Netflix, Disney, the Phillies, the Eagles, and hanging out with my family.

Daily Participation

- Students will be given a daily class participation grade. Throughout the course of daily instruction, students will be required to:

-Have all necessary materials

-Demonstrate appropriate effort to maintain healthy singing posture and breathing techniques

-Demonstrate appropriate listening skills

-Produce appropriate tone as required by the literature and/or teacher’s interpretation

-Maintain a positive attitude of respect and commitment to excellence by following all school rules

-Classwork will consist of written work and/or projects

***Performances - Attendance at performances is absolutely mandatory. There are few reasons that can be considered valid for missing a required performance. Students are graded on each performance. That grade will be a 0 if a student does not participate in a required performance without proper notification and an acceptable excuse. Proper notification is a written note from a parent/guardian or a phone call from a parent/guardian. It is up to the discretion of Mrs. Manzano whether or not an alternate assignment will be given.

7th & 8th Gr CHOIR CLASS GRADING:

40% - Participation

30% - Performance/Projects

20% - Classwork/Homework

10% - Quizzes/Tests

*Students receive grades for our class as Choir is an elective for 8th Graders takes the place of General Music for 7th Graders. Where applicable, rubrics will be provided. As a general rule for my class, I don’t like to give out homework besides our practice logs, however, if there is misuse of time, students will still be responsible for their work to be turned in to receive an appropriate grade/credit. In addition, all policies from Homeroom Choir carry over into this class as it is an extension of our ensemble to expand our musical knowledge and musicianship.

8th Gr Roots of Pop Music & All the World's a Stage GRADING:

40% - Participation

30% - Projects

20% - Classwork/Homework

10% - Quizzes/Tests

*Roots of Pop Music is not only a music class, but a history class as well. While homework will be given infrequently, it is important for students to practice good time management during our class times to allow for proper completion of the projects and assignments that are given.
