What is Red Ribbon Week?

Red Ribbon Week is a national drug prevention campaign held every yearin the last week of October. It encourages students, schools, and communities to make healthy choices, live drug-free, and promote positive lifestyles. The red ribbon is worn as a symbol of commitment to a safe and drug-free future.

Why do we recognize Red Ribbon Week?

We recognize Red Ribbon Week to honor the memory of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who gave his life while fighting against drug trafficking, and to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. It’s a way for schools and communities to come together, promote healthy, drug-free living, and encourage students to make safe, positive choices for their future.

How do we make the most of Red Ribbon week?

  • Join the fun! Dress up for spirit days and show your support for being drug-free.

  • Take the pledge. Promise to make healthy choices and encourage your friends to do the same.

  • Get involved. Try out contests, activities, or projects happening at your school.

  • Pay attention. Listen to speakers and lessons—you might learn something that helps you or a friend.

  • Be a leader. Set a positive example by staying drug-free and making safe choices.

  • Spread the word. Share what you’ve learned with friends, family, or online in a positive way.
