2024 - 2025 Agricultural Education Course Offerings
#120 INTRODUCTION TO AGRICULTURE (Semester, 9-12 Elective) Suggested entry level course for other Ag Classes. This is an exploratory course covering the areas of horticulture, biotechnology, natural resources, animal science, plant science, leadership, and ethics in agriculture. In this course there will be an introduction to FFA and SAE. No agriculture experience necessary to take this course.
#121 ANIMAL SCIENCE (Semester 1 or 2, 9-12 Elective) This course will expose students to the world of animal science and the careers associated with the industry. Students will experience various topics such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, reproduction, genetics, animal health and animal selection through exciting hands-on activities, projects, and problems.
#122 ADVANCED ANIMAL SCIENCE (Semester 1 or 2, 11-12 Elective)(Offered 2025-2026 school year) Prerequisite: Animal Science. In this course, you will have a closer look at the animal industry including body systems, biosecurity, diseases, and animal welfare. Throughout the semester our field trips will provide hands-on experience in veterinary medicine, beef production, horse training, and much more. Successful completion of this course will earn three credits for the DMACC course, AGS 114, Survey of the Animal Industry. It is highly recommended that students take Animal Science First.
#123 NATURAL RESOURCES (Semester 1 or 2, 9- 12 Elective) (Offered 2025-2026 school year) In this course, a survey of our nation’s natural resources will be covered. Soils, water quality, forestry, native vegetation, conservation, renewable fuels, GPS and many other areas of natural resources. (This course may be used as a Science elective).
#128 GREENHOUSE MANAGEMENT (Semester 2, 10-12 Elective) This class will cover gardening, greenhouse operations, and horticulture sales and marketing. The focus of the class will be growing and preparing plants for the spring plant sale. Weather permitting, the class will participate in a landscaping project.
#137 AGRICULTURAL BUSINESS (Semester 1 or 2, 11-12 Elective)(Offered 2025-2026 school year) Not just for agriculture individuals! This course teaches lifelong learning skills needed to enter the world of work and encourages teamwork and independence. Topics such as entrepreneurship, agriculture business financial recordkeeping, and understanding the markets will be covered. Successful completion of this course will earn three credits for the DMACC course, AGB 331, Entrepreneurship in Agriculture.
#133 FLORAL DESIGN (Semester 1 or 2, 9-12 Elective) (Offered 2025-2026 school year) Stop and smell the roses! Students who successfully complete this class will construct cost effective geometric designs, corsages and flower bouquets. Special occasion designs and business management practices are an integral part of the course which will prepare students for a career in the floral industry.
#136 VETERINARY SCIENCE (Semester 1 or 2, 10-12 Elective) Prerequisite: Animal Science. This class will teach you the necessary skills needed for an entry level career in veterinary medicine. This course provides many hands-on learning experiences with small and large animals that include surgery techniques, office management, ethics, clinical exams and hospital care. Instruction is enhanced through field trips, guest speakers, and demonstrations.
#159 WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT(Semester 1 or 2, 9-12 Elective) If you enjoy the outdoors and its critters, this is the class for you! Wildlife is a very important part of our natural world. This course explores the history of wildlife, their populations, habitats, diseases, and protection. We will study anatomy and physiology, nutrition and feeding. Units will also include hunting, fishing, and trapping. Ethics, regulations, and citizen responsibilities will be discussed.
#124 PLANT SCIENCE (Semester 1 or 2, 9-12 Elective) This course provides a foundation of plant science knowledge and skills. Student experiences will include the study of plant anatomy and physiology, classification, and the fundamentals of production and harvesting. Students will learn how to apply scientific knowledge and skills to use plants effectively for agronomic, forestry, and horticultural industries.
#119 AGRONOMY (Semester 1 or 2, 11-12 Elective) An introductory course in the general principles of crop production and management. Major areas of study are food production, crop classification, plant growth factors, seed production and variety selection. Successful completion of this course will earn three credits for the DMACC course, AGA 114 Introduction to Agronomy.
#316 AG. SALES & MARKETING (Semester 1 or 2, 9-12 Elective) There is a science behind every effective sales exchange. Come learn how to sell products and services to various audiences. We will also investigate the components of a marketing plan.
# 118 AGRICULTURAL LEADERSHIP (Semester 1 or 2, 10-12 Elective) (Offered 2025-2026 school year) Whether you consider yourself a leader or a follower, this course is for you! With an ever-increasing need for leaders within our school, community, state and nation, we need you to be competent citizens who can make things happen! This class will teach you how to develop your leadership skills to be the best you can be. It will help you to become more of a leader by studying team building, group dynamics, personal leadership development, and communication. We will explore different leadership styles and career possibilities.
#130 AG. WELDING (Semester 1 or 2, 9-12 Elective) Students in this class will learn how to use different welding processes. Welding history, welding techniques, shop safety, machine set up, and skill development will be covered throughout the course.
#135 ADV. AG. WELDING (Semester 1 or 2, 9 – 12 Elective) Prerequisite: Ag. Welding/Metals. Students will use the knowledge and skills acquired in Ag. Welding/Metals and apply it to real life situations. Throughout the semester students will learn different cutting techniques that will be used to create various projects. Problem solving, critical thinking, and time management will be the focus for this course.
#131 SMALL ENGINES (Semester, 9-12 Elective) Students will learn the basic operation of a small engine. Students will have classroom instruction and worksheets along with lab projects where students will disassemble and reassemble small engines and identify their parts.
