What is POP?
Pause.
Pause and take 3 deep breaths. What do you feel in your body and mind today? How is your energy level today?
Own it.
Own whatever thoughts, feelings or emotions you are experiencing.
Practice.
Pick a practice that will help you be ready to learn today.
Why is Gardner having POP sessions?
To provide tools so students are empowered to be present and ready to learn.
To facilitate opportunities for students to cultivate self-awareness and learn how to regulate.
Self-awareness: students must be aware of a behavior in order to regulate it
Self-regulation: expressing emotions and managing stress, anger, anxiety, etc.
What will happen during morning POP sessions?
Mrs. Huels and Mrs. Ehrenstrom, our social worker, will teach students strategies that can be used at school and home, such as movement, stillness, and team building. Students receive approximately 25 minutes of POP monthly.
Want to learn more or have questions?
Check out the book Everyday SEL by Carla Tantillo Philibert. We are using this book as a guide for our POP lessons. We also made audio recordings of our POP lessons through October 2024. We are no longer making audio recordings but please don't hesitate to ask if you have a question. Topics we will cover after winter break include: good sportsmanship, being friendly vs. friends, teamwork, respecting personal space, & being kind online.
