The Elementary Spanish Program of the Mountain Views Supervisory Union
The Elementary Spanish Program of the Mountain Views Supervisory Union seeks to equip students with communication skills in Spanish, to provide them with the perspectives of those countries where Spanish is spoken, and to prepare them for success in a multilingual economy and society.
We understand that language learning is an innate human capability from which all students benefit. The study of World Languages is an interdisciplinary pursuit that intrinsically gives students a global perspective; students gain an increased knowledge of their relationship to the world by developing an appreciation for other viewpoints and a deeper understanding of their own culture and the world.

Highlights from Spanish Class
Capybaras, Jaguars and Pumas, Oh My! Spanish students in Grades 3-4 read the Spanish book, Capibara con Botas by Mira Canion. This book tells the story of Carlos, a capybara who has special boots that help him on his travels through Ecuador. Students read the story en español, learned more about the rainforest and created posters for many animals of the Amazon Rainforest.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th-October 15th each year. Students learned about musician Tito Puente and singer Celia Cruz and celebrated National Hispanic Heritage month by dancing, singing and playing "air percussion" like Tito.
¿Cómo Estás? Students have learned los saludos (greetings) and learned how to ask each other how they are feeling in Spanish. They also learned new vocabulary for las emociones to describe how they feel each day!
Bilingual Library Project!
After receiving a generous grant from the Windsor Central Innovation Fund during the 2022-2023 school year ,we were able to purchase several bilingual and Spanish language books for our school libraries! This includes books that students will be able to read during library hours, take home to read with families and that can be utilized for Spanish class and beyond. We are so excited to expand our library collections! This grant also will fund bilingual books for the libraries at each elementary school in the district.
The Bilingual Library Project was generously funded by the Windsor Central Innovation Fund. To learn more about the Fund, please visit our website. A big "gracias" to the Windsor Central Innovation Fund for their generous support!
Here are some photos of students enjoying our new books!
Students in grades K-2 learned the childhood favorite, La Araña Pequeñita in Spanish. Students were able to sing the song using the target language lyrics and also made libritos to take home to read to their families.
