I teach science at Woodstock Union Middle School in Woodstock, Vermont. I look for ways to nurture curiosity, creativity and problem-solving in the classroom, as well as to reinforce the importance of hard work and personal accountability. I especially enjoy helping students creatively communicate their learning through art, movement and technology.
I earned bachelor's degrees in Exercise Science (Ithaca College) and Biology (Johnson State College) and a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction (University of Vermont). My interest in educational research eventually led me to pursue a doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from UVM, where my dissertation focused on the use of Twitter as a tool for learning and communicating science.
My love of research and writing extends far beyond the classroom. I am currently conducting research for a book about the Barre Auditorium (the "Aud") and its more than 75-year history with Vermont high school basketball. Please visit the "Barre Auditorium" section of this website to learn more about this project.
A lifelong Vermonter, I carry a deep sense of place. I grew up in the small, rural community of Bethel, and feel fortunate to count a paper route, hunting, playing basketball and attending school in the same building from kindergarten to twelfth grade as especially formative experiences of my youth.
