Events

We have so much fun all year.  Our upcoming events can be found here.

Our spring book fair will be
March 11-15

We will have a Scholastic book fair this spring.

We hold two book fair events each year, once in the fall and once in the spring.  We can't wait to see everyone this March for our  book fair.

We love collaborating with the
Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library

In the past, Eastside has teamed up with the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library for our summer reading program. Each year, our families have come to our school library for three days each week in June. We've had loads of fun doing countless arts and crafts projects, given out books to students and younger siblings, pretended to be our favorite literary characters, and played some epic games. We were not able to have our summer library program in 2020, due to COVID-19; we hope to continue the program in the future. Below are photos from our past summer reading programs.

Creative play using S.T.E.A.M.

S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math.  We used these disciplines to think and play. We've created lunar modules from recycled materials, made slimy messes and moon sand, become robots and superheroes, and created worlds with trains and blocks. IT WAS FUN!

We had a visit from service animals and Therapy Dogs!

Our students and parents had an amazing visit from two therapy dogs.  We read stories to them, gave them lots of  attention, and saw the amazing tricks they can perform. We've also gotten to meet a service dog in training, and read stories with his trainer.

Animals & Storytellers

We've had wonderful performers visit us during our summer reading programs. Our families met some incredible animals with this animal expert. We interacted with a versatile, professional storyteller that took us on an aviation adventure using only music and words. We even explored space and the stars with a mobile museum and planetarium.

Skype with Lindsay Currie

Thank you to author Lindsay Currie for talking to our fourth graders on Skype. Mrs. Currie discussed her book "A Peculiar Incident on Shady Street" and read a chapter from her new novel, "Scritch Scratch." She answered our questions about her writing process and why she likes scary books.

All aboard!

Each December, our students visit the North Pole and enjoy visits from Santa and our own elf, Elvis. Pictured above, students boarded "The Polar Express" in the library. The conductor welcomed students with their tickets and hot chocolate and cookies were enjoyed by all. We've met Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch and Scrooge during our holiday fun.

Tea parties and books

New books anyone? Each January, the Eastside media center allows students to "taste" the new books we purchase each year by holding a book tasting in the library. This past year, we had a virtual book tasting. In the past, we've enjoyed a mad tea party themed book tasting. Each table had a different genre theme.
