At RCK, our English program is designed to inspire a love of reading, strengthen writing skills, and help students grow into confident thinkers and communicators. Every student takes English each year of high school, where they explore literature, informational texts, writing, speaking, and language in ways that prepare them not only for exams, but for college, careers, and life beyond the classroom.
In grades 9–11, students build a strong foundation in reading and writing through full-year English courses, with options for both Regents and Honors levels. 11th-grade Honors students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement (AP) Language and Composition. By 12th-grade, students can choose from several exciting paths, including English 12, AP Literature and Composition, or College English 101/102.
Alongside core courses, students may also select from a variety of electives that allow them to pursue personal interests and explore new areas of expression.
Our department’s goal is simple: to help every student find their voice, challenge themselves, and leave with the tools to succeed wherever their journey takes them.
