Students analyze films using literary techniques, gaining deeper insight into how movies convey meaning. Through film and nonfiction texts, students develop stronger critical thinking skills while exploring new ideas through a familiar medium.
1/2 Year Course
This course examines the impact of genocide on humanity through historical texts, fiction, film, and guest speakers. Students complete a variety of writing assignments and a research project while considering both the universality and uniqueness of these events.

Students practice writing for television, film, and print while learning media theory, ethics, and production. Projects include TV broadcasts, short films, commercials, and news articles. Out-of-class participation is required.

What makes a monster? This course explores cultural fears and anxieties expressed through monsters in literature, film, and art from ancient times to today. Students investigate how these figures reflect society’s values and concerns.

Students learn to overcome the fear of public speaking by writing and delivering frequent presentations. This course challenges students to step outside their comfort zones. Eligible students may earn college credit through Dutchess Community College (additional fee required).

Full Year Course
A hands-on introduction to theatre arts, including acting, improvisation, stage movement, voice training, and backstage work like lighting and costumes. Students may also direct or stage manage. This course can count as a Fine Arts graduation requirement or as an English elective.

Students explore improvisational theatre to develop listening skills, creativity, and stage presence. Through movement, sound, and improvisation, they learn how theatre can build community and address social issues.
