We will have open gyms where only John Jay Students will be able to come and play pick up games. We will divide the kids with 9th and 10th graders on 1 court playing and 11th and 12th graders on another court. All players MUST come with plenty of water (NO JUICE OR GATORADE allowed in the gym), a white shirt and a dark shirt (so they can change when playing - teams will be changed multiple times so players need 2 shirts - a white one and a dark one), and basketball sneakers. DO NOT BRING A BASKETBALL!!!!! All players must be picked up ON TIME after the session is over. Players are NOT ALLOWED to show up early and stay late or hang around in the gym, lobby area, or outside the school. If you don't have a ride home, please don't come to open gym. There is NO LATE BUS to take you home after the open gym is over.
Please note that the format for Open Gyms are basically the same for "pick-up" basketball. Players will form their own teams and call their own fouls. The coaches will run a clock and will clear the court after each game (typically 6 minutes in length).
We ask that every player plays a game before a player plays a 2nd game. We want everyone to have a chance to play. There is no score kept and it's just for fun, so we ask that the players rotate teams that they are on and allow everyone to play the same number of games if at all possible. With that said, this is an open gym and the format is open to the players who show up. Coach Seipp will try to give it some structure, but this will NOT be run like a practice or tryout, simply like pick up basketball games.
