READING TIPS FOR PARENTS
-Read aloud at least 15 minutes every day with your child…older children enjoy this too
-Establish a routine time and place to read
-Talk with your child when you play and do things together
-Visit libraries or bookstores with your child
-Obtain library cards for you and your child
-Make a special place in the home where children can read and write
-Keep books and other reading materials readily available
-Take books and writing supplies whenever you leave home, so that your child can read and write wherever you go
-Show your child how you read every day for fun and work
-Talk with your child about their experiences
-Encourage your child to read independently
-Listen to your child
-Share stories with your child about family experiences
-Talk about how you use reading every day
-Play word games with your child in the car
-Most importantly, SHARE THE JOY OF READING
