Mrs. Cavallaro's Art Class

Welcome

Within the art room, students will be provided with lessons that are rich in content and allow them to think critically and develop their own ideas. My curriculum is centered around the New York State Standards and the WCSD Art Curriculum Outcomes. Ideas of multiculturalism, choice, and personal identity are incorporated in lessons. Through the use of art materials, tools, and technology, students learn how to become independent thinkers and artists who appreciate the arts and understand its value in our society. Children will learn about the elements and principles of art through different artists, styles, and cultures around the world. All students, K-6, receive art instruction 1-2 times per week.

About Mrs. Cavallaro

I am thrilled to be teaching the amazing artists at Oak Grove Elementary School! We will create so many beautiful artworks and make many discoveries along the way. I can't wait to create with you!

I grew up in Carmel New York, then moved to Wappingers Falls and obtained my associates degree in Art Studies at Dutchess Community College. I then continued my education at SUNY New Paltz and obtained my bachelor's and master's degree in Art Education. I am currently motivated to learn and grow through teaching!

It is my belief that we are all lifelong learners and I hope to inspire students to develop a love of learning and creativity! I am excited to get to know the students and teachers here at Oak Grove and I look forward to all the wonderful experiences we will have!

Questions to ask your child about their artwork

You can help your child develop critical thinking skills by asking your child open- ended questions about their artwork. Here are some examples of questions you can ask your child!

· Can you tell me about your artwork?

· What materials did you use to create this artwork?

· Can you teach me how to do that?

· Why did you choose to make it?

· What do you like most about your artwork?

· What would you do differently next time?

· How did you use shape in this artwork?

· Why did you choose that color here?
