FBA/BIP

Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)

A procedure used to examine behaviors to determine what happens before, during, and after behaviors occur. Behaviors are examined in terms of purposes and functions that the behavior serves for the individual exhibiting the behavior. An FBA is a Tier 3 intervention under RTI. It is to be conducted with parent consent when all possible Tier 1 & 2 interventions have been exhausted without yielding positive results in regards to behavior management.

Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP)

The findings of a functional behavior assessment yield the function(s) of given behavior(s) enabling providers to develop a more effective behavior intervention plan. It is a written document that becomes part of the IEP. This plan identifies problem behaviors; a goal for decreasing inappropriate behaviors and increasing appropriate behaviors, and specifies intervention strategies to use when specific behavioral events occur.
