Reading grades are based on running records, small group reading sessions, book club participation, individual conferences, response activities, phonics skills, and comprehension activities.
Math grades are based on daily work, quizzes, and unit tests.
Language Arts grades are based on listening and speaking during class discussions, handwriting, writing sentences and paragraphs, and using the writing process effectively.
Science and Social Studies grades are based on students’ ability to work cooperatively in groups, complete projects, reports, quizzes, and tests.
Homework* is important for students to practice and reinforce the skills taught at school. Homework is not individually graded, but daily completion is required. Excessive missing homework will affect their growth as a third-grader and will be reflected on their report card.
*Homework Policy
Students are required to read for twenty minutes every Monday through Thursday night.
Homework will usually include a math worksheet and may also include a written assignment in language arts, science, or social studies.
Long-term projects may also be assigned. These will include book projects and social studies/science projects.
