This year in Reading your child will:

read a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts 

identify the features/structure of a text and how they relate to genre and author's purpose

identify character traits, understand character motivation, and explore overall character development

use background knowledge to make connections, draw conclusions, and ask questions

compare texts, characters, and experiences

build stamina and fluency

dive deeper into a text by reading it multiple times and thinking about their own thinking

This year in Writing your child will:

   write every day and for a variety of purposes

work through the writing process (plan, draft, revise, edit, and publish) regularly

write narrative, informational, persuasive, and research pieces

complete on-demand writing pieces
