Reading grades are based on running records, small group reading sessions, individual conferences, response activities, phonics skills, and performance assessments.
Math grades are based on daily work, quizzes, and unit tests.
Language Arts grades are based on listening and speaking during class discussions, handwriting, writing sentences and paragraphs, and using the writing process effectively.
Science and Social Studies grades are based on the ability to work cooperatively in groups, and complete exit tickets, quizzes, and tests.
Homework* is important for students to practice and reinforce the skills taught at school. Homework is not individually graded, but daily completion is required. Excessive missing homework will affect their growth as a third-grader and will be reflected on their report card.
*Homework Policy
Students are required to read for twenty minutes every Monday through Thursday night.
Homework will usually include a math worksheet and may also include an assignment in language arts, science, or social studies.
Please check your child’s planner and homework daily. This will be posted on Parent Square as well as in their red folders on the first day of the week.
