Biographical Sketch: I have been a member of the Roy C. Ketcham Social Studies Department since 1999. In 2005, I became the T.C. (Teacher-in-Charge) of the department and have spent my career educating the children of the Wappingers Central School District. As an undergraduate, I attended SUNY Cortland (B.A. in History/Secondary Social Studies - Dual Major). From there, I attended Iona University (M.A. in History) and the University at Albany (Ph.D. History). I have been adjunct professor of History at Marist University (2013-Present); the University at Albany (Africana Studies Department, 2013-2015); and Mount Saint Mary College (History Department, 2005-2010). In addition to my full-time job as a High School Social Studies teacher, I started teaching at the college level in 2005. As an historian of Africa, I focus on the history of Mozambique and the other Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) African countries. My particular research interests include the history of liberation struggles, state-building, frontiers/borderland dynamics, and education.
