We use a standards based grading system – the grades on the report card reflect the student’s abilities at the end of the marking period in regard to a particular standard.
Grades are determined by teacher assessments, observations, check-lists, and rubrics.
Reading: determined by the level at which the student can independently read and comprehend, reading conferences, phonics skills, sight word recognition, vocabulary, decoding skills
Math: determined by classwork, quizzes, and fluency assessments, rubrics designed to assess each child’s ability with regard to a particular standard.
Language Arts: determined by listening, speaking, and participating during class discussions, handwriting, writing conferences, writing benchmarks, end-of-unit Fundations tests
Science and Social Studies: determined by ability to work cooperatively, unit projects/experiments, classwork, quizzes, and end-of-unit tests
