What You Should Know About the WCIS STEM Club

Mission Statement
This club will introduce, instruct, and develop participants into responsible and educated drone pilots.
We will explore the various aspects of drone piloting including equipment, safety, piloting skills, and coding of drone programs.
We will prepare for aerial drone competition by learning drone maneuverability, drone coding, and competition rules and expectations.
We will construct, code, and drive robots.
Communications
Club communications will be done via email, STEM Club Google Classroom, this STEM Club Website and monthly newsletters.
Paper copies of schedules and newsletters will be offered at every club meeting.

After-School Behavior Expectations
The same rules that apply during school time, apply after school during STEM Club.
Students are expected to follow directions and be cooperative.
Cell phones remain in book bags until it is time to leave.
We will operate on the three-strike system. Any student that receives three strikes due to disruptive or unmanageable behavior, will be removed from STEM Club. A major behavior problem could result in immediate removal from the club.
STEM Club currently has over 70 students registered with TWO coaches. Poor behavior cannot be tolerated.

Aerial Drone Competition 2025 Information
Students will receive information next week (Wednesday, October 2) about optional participation in the Aerial drone Competition. Students that wish to participate will receive training to fly and code a specific drone. The attached video below is a brief overview of what will happen at the competition. The competition will be held on a Saturday in February or March. A parent or guardian will be required to bring the student to the competition and remain with us throughout the day. Any family members may come and watch the competition. If you believe that your student would be interested, please sign the form and return it. There is no fee for your student to attend. Please email me with any questions that you may have. Also, pictures from the previous competitions can be seen below.

We have been very busy learning how to assemble the drones, fly the drones, and code programs for the drones! We are also learning how to navigate obstacles such as landing pads, rings and blackout curtains, and use our downdrafts to maneuver ping pong balls.
