Join us for Moose Stew and enjoy scientific posters shared by local and visiting researchers and a mini-workshop sharing an opportunity for local harvesters to learn how to collect samples from harvested wildlife to investigate pathogens. No registration necessary.

Join us for a free opportunity to learn how genomic sequencing approaches can potentially help detect and track zoonotic diseases (illnesses that can pass between animals and people). Join us in a live, hands-on demonstration, ask questions, and discuss how these tools might support local health decision making, and data sovereignty. All are welcome! Tech training will be followed by a tour of the Barrow Arctic Research Center.

Join us for a local screening of a variety of films celebrating the connections between people, animals, and the environment. Local film makers are invited to submit their films to be shared, and local artisans are invited to register to sell their crafts during intermission.

Day 4

Join us for continental breakfast and a Sharing Circle to reflect on activities and experiences from this year's retreat.

9:00 - 10:00 am
Yoga will be led by Carmen Daggett and consist of primarily standing sequences, no need for a yoga mat. Dress warmly for ~40°F weather. No registration required.
Location: Meet at the Eskimo Inc. Gas Station then walk to the beach for morning yoga. A shuttle will leave the BARC following breakfast and closing session to the gas station for yoga.
10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Bird Watching - Hosted by Kiita Tours
Location: Pick up will be in the Top of the World Hotel Parking lot. Shuttle will return to parking lot following bird watching.
12:00 pm
Nalukataq, a celebration of successful whaling, is hosted by the successful whaling crews annually near solstice. During this event caribou and goose soup are served near lunch time, followed by the sharing of whale and bearded seal meat and blubber (muktuk). Cake, coffee, and tea are also served. Attendees should bring their own bowl, spoon, cup, knife, and Ziploc bags to enjoy shared foods. For seating people bring lawn chairs, coolers, or picnic blankets. After food is served and cleaned up, community members return to particpate in the blanket toss. There is often dancing at the high school in the evening. Visitors are welcome and often invited to cut themselves a piece of muktuk from slabs of whale blubber.
Location: Nalukataq is hosted in the vaccant lot near Top of the World Hotel. Pick up and drop off for shuttling will be atthe Top of the World Hotel parking lot.

A shuttle will depart from UIC housing and the Top of the World Hotel to transport visitors to the airport by 3:30. The airport is typically busier during Nalukataq and we want to ensure visitors have plenty of time to check their bags.
