Rules for Technology Concentration Game Activity:
Grade Levels: 3-5
Premise: This game is for students in grades 3-5. Technology Concentration can be used to review student knowledge of classroom technology equipment that they see on a daily basis. The game also reinforces memory skills.
Object: The object of the game is for students to call out numbers and find the matching words and pictures behind the 25 squares.
Gameplay: Click Slide 1 of this PowerPoint presentation and put it in Full Screen Presentation mode. The students should see a full screen with 25 numbers. Divide the class into two teams and decide who goes first. You can designate team captains to call out the numbers or give each student of the team a turn to call numbers but allow everyone to participate. The first team to play calls out one number on the game board. Click the numbered square to reveal the technology item behind it. The square will contain either the name of the piece of technology equipment or will show a picture of it. You can see the master board of what is behind each square on Slide 2. You may want to print a copy of Slide 2 to have handy while running the game. That way, you can see where everything is located on the board.
The team then calls out a second number and tries to find the matching word or picture. If the two items match, leave the squares revealed and the team gets another turn. However, if the two items do not match, click the squares again to turn the boxes back to the numbered side. Control of the game passes to the second team and gameplay continues in the same manner. As long as a team successfully matches two items, they continue playing. Otherwise, control passes to the opposing team.
Wild Card: One square contains a Wild Card. If a team uncovers this square, it is an automatic match with whatever other numbered square the team called. If the Wild Card is revealed, refer to the printout of Slide 2 you have handy and click the matching word or picture on the board so that number will not be called again. This means a total of three numbered squares will be taken out of play on this turn.
Winner: The team with the most matches wins the game. The winning team gets to solve a rebus puzzle located on Slide 3. Go to this slide directly from the game board on Slide 1 by pressing either the right arrow or down arrow on your keyboard while still in Presentation mode. If the team correctly guesses the rebus puzzle, they can win an extra treat.
Tie Game: In the event that both teams score the same number of matches in the main game, use the Rebus Puzzle on Slide 3 to break the tie. Reveal the rebus and the first team to correctly guess the puzzle breaks the tie.
