Jan 9 - (1918)The Naval Overseas Transportation Service, (now the Military Sealift Command), is established to carry cargo during World War I.
Jan. 10 - (1943)Submarine Trigger (SS-237) sinks the Japanese destroyer Okikaze off Yokosuka, Japan.
Jan. 11 - (1944)Torpedo bombing aircraft from USS Block Island (CVE-21) make first aircraft rocket attack on German submarine, U-758.
Jan. 12 - (1953)Aircraft landings begin operational tests, day and night, onboard USS Antietam (CVA-36), the first angled flight deck carrier.
