White Oak's  Firsties

 Welcome Firsties!!

Welcome to 1st Grade and White Oak Elementary!  We are excited to embark on this journey with you and your child.

We hope that together we can help your child have a successful first-grade experience! In our classrooms, communication is key.  Your student will thrive in first grade if we work together toward common goals.  Please always feel free to email your teacher or use the Talking Point application if you have any questions or concerns.

What is the TALKINGPOINTS tool? TalkingPoints is a two-way multi-lingual platform that allows teachers and parents to communicate in over 100 languages. TalkingPoints will enable teachers and parents to communicate via text messages.

Information to keep in mind:

First Day of School: Please have your student in the classroom no later than 9:15 am.  Please try and arrive at least a few minutes earlier so your child can get settled before the bell rings!

Lunch: Your child may either bring their lunch from home or buy lunch from our cafeteria. If you have any lunch questions, please contact the front office or contact the cafeteria manager.

Pocket size Snack: We will have a snack each day around 10:55 am. Also, if a spoon or fork is required, please be sure to provide one.

Homework Folder:   White Oak’s homework policy aligns with the WCPSS homework policy. The minutes of homework per day should NOT exceed 20 minutes per day for K-2. If your child spends more than 20 minutes, please let me know immediately. Per WCPSS policy, I cannot grade homework. Homework will be assigned Monday - Thursday.

Friday Folder: This folder will have all the students’ weekly work and WOES communications. Please empty the folder and return it by the next school day.

Chromebook - Please make sure that the device has been updated and charged before the first day of school. Send the device and charger to school on the first day. We will keep the device in our classroom cart. Students will use the device regularly.

We look forward to meeting you and your child soon!
