This course is an overview of dramatic techniques and an introduction into various elements of technical theatre. Students develop communication skills through study in dialogue, pantomime, improvisation, speech/diction, and role play. Students will explore the technical elements of costuming, makeup, lighting design, and prop building! Introduction students will perform in a Showcase for their fellow classmates in December! Students within this course will gain a base knowledge that will assist them in their growth throughout the other theatre courses offered! This course is available to Year 1 and Year 2 students.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Theatre
This course will take the base knowledge covered in the Introduction course, and dive deeper into various elements of acting and technical theatre. Students will take their previous knowledge and use it to write and perform scenes, create original characters, design playbills, create lighting plots, and much more! Students will put on a Showcase for their friends and families in November. This course is available to Year 2 and Year 3 students, and is designed to help solidify a route they would like to pursue within the Advanced levels listed below.
By Audition Only
Students within this course will have the opportunity to: create their own scripts, cast their own shows, direct miniature scenes, perfect audition skills, explore improvisation, and implement elements of stage combat! Students within this course will determine what side of onstage tasks they would like to explore. This could range from dramatic & comedic acting, to directing and producing. Students will participate in a showcase that will be open to friends and family! This showcase will take place in the Spring! Time after school is required.
Audition Requirements:
Prepare 2 contrasting monologues. Each monologue should be at least 30 seconds in length

Students within this course will select a specialty in the technical theatre realm (lighting design, stage management, costume design, makeup design, set design) and have a more “hands on” approach to their chosen skill. Students will be using tools, and making design choices for the Wildcat Drama Club Performances.
Interview Requirements: Admission to this course requires one letter of recommendation, and a portfolio/resume to showcase your growth in technical theatre!
