About me:
I've had a life-long love of art. I brought home awards in elementary school, used my skills on my middle school newspaper and literary magazine and, in high school, you could usually find me in the art room.
I grew up along the SC coast and went to the College of Charleston and Coastal Carolina University for Studio Art.
After college, I spent a few years working behind the scenes for the NBC News affiliate in Myrtle Beach, SC doing everything from running cameras to editing video and graphics. Realizing this just wasn't what I wanted to do long-term, I returned to my love of studio art and decided to get a Masters in Art Education. From the moment I started the program, I knew this was the perfect fit for me.
I love making all kinds of art but my favorite is ceramics, drawing and painting...ok, pretty much all of it is my favorite.
What do I love about teaching? Getting to see the progress a student makes as they move through the different levels of art. Getting to see an Art 1 student realize they are more talented than they realized. Seeing an amazing array of variety even when the class is assigned the same project. Getting to be a source of support to those who need it.
I moved to Raleigh over 12 years ago for my first teaching job. Since then, I have bought and renovated 2 houses, gotten married, earned my National Board certification and have had two beautiful girls...it has been busy!
Now that things are settling down, I can't wait to start my 13th year of teaching.
