Kindergarten is focusing on simple building challenges for the first quarter. We began with using Keva planks and then used their knowledge of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom to see how many letters they could balance on a tree. We will be reading some books to support our literacy skills and gear buliding challenges and science vocabulary to them.
First Grade started off this week with figuring out ways they could get a marble or ping pong ball to move. We will do more things related to force and motion, using vocabulary like push, pull, incline, gravity, and more. They will make many different types of mazes and learn about Rube Goldberg machines. This supports their first grade science unit.
Second grade started off with a lesson on being good digital citizens. For more information about Digital Citizenship lessons and ways to support, please go here.
We then began our sound supplementation unit. In 2nd grade this quarter they focus on the ear and how we hear sounds. In STEM we do some experiments related to sound using hands on experiments. Thank you to the PTA for our sound box we will use this year!
Third Grade starts off the year with Digital Citizenship. We will begin with learning why passwords are important, how to create a secure password, and work on creating a password for their WakeID that is easy to create. We will then move into other Digital Citizenship skills. For more information about Digital Citizenship lessons and ways to support, please go here.

If students were at a school other than White Oak, they will be changing their passwords this year if they have not yet.
We start the year aligned with the 5th grade science standard course of study.
ECS begins the year exploring with different building manipulatives.
