I am Debbie Sowa and I am the school psychologist at Wakefield Elementary and East Millbrook Middle. I have worked in Wake County and at Wakefield Elementary since September of 2004. Many of you have seen me in your visits to Wakefield Elementary, but may be unaware of who I am or what exactly I do.
As a school psychologist, I am a jack of many trades. I am trained in the evaluation of students with disabilities; understanding learning differences and related teaching methods; data analysis; counseling; and consultation with teachers and parents on student learning, behavior, and emotional issues. I provide support to teachers, administration, and parents on ways to address student's challenges. I work closely with staff to develop and monitor intervention plans for individual students, groups, or whole classes. I also provide direct evaluation of students experiencing school difficulties, provide crisis response, and work closely with other student services personnel to assist students and families in need.
I am available as a consultant for parents if you have questions around how best to address their child’s learning or behavior challenges. Although, I am shared between two schools, I am committed to supporting students, staff, and parents to positively develop our future generations. Please e-mail or call me if you would like to set up an appointment to chat about your child’s needs.
Sincerely,
Debbie Sowa, M.Ed
