Meet Ms. Newton-Clark
At our school we have great and experienced teachers. One of those teachers is our amazing Ms. Newton-Clark, who is our 6th-grade Track 2/3 English teacher. She shared her experiences at Lufkin and why she chose to be a teacher. She explained that she has always had a passion for learning and has been teaching for 20 years—not only in 6th grade.
She expressed her enjoyment of teaching 6th grade by highlighting the excitement her students experience as they transition from elementary school. She loves witnessing the moment when they discover the "right" book that truly captivates them. By the end of the year, she hopes her students feel seen, heard, and cared for, while also demonstrating growth and proficiency in reading.
In addition to her teaching philosophy, she emphasizes the importance of real-world preparation. She believes in being honest with her students, addressing the challenges they may face without sugar-coating the realities of life. She wants them to develop the resilience to bounce back from setbacks and the confidence to navigate the adult world after high school. Ultimately, her goal is to instill lifelong skills in perseverance, determination, and a love for learning that will benefit her students well beyond the classroom.
