Meet Ms. Marshak
She is a seventh-grade math teacher for tracks 2 and 3 at Lufkin Road Middle School, where she has been teaching for 14 years across four different schools. Over the years, she has developed a deep love for helping students, especially one-on-one, when they’re struggling. She enjoys watching them piece together the steps of learning and reach their “aha” moments. When asked what advice she would give to someone considering a career in teaching, Mrs. Marshak shared her thoughts on the challenges and rewards of the profession. While teaching can be difficult, she emphasized the fulfillment that comes from reflecting on the impact teachers have on students' lives. She recalled a touching moment when a former student reached out to her after more than a decade to ask for help with their own children’s homework. This experience was a powerful reminder of how teachers can shape lives in ways that extend
far beyond the classroom. During the interview, Mrs. Marshak was also asked how schools can better support teachers.
She reflected on her 14 years in the profession, noting that, at times, she has had differing perspectives from school administrators. She stressed that trust and transparency are crucial for a school to function smoothly, and that teachers should be actively involved in decision-making processes. According to Mrs. Marshak, teachers are the ones who understand the realities of the classroom and can offer valuable insights that help improve the school environment.
Mrs. Marshak is a valued member of the Lufkin Road staff, and we are incredibly grateful to have her as part of our community. Her dedication, experience, and perspective make her an invaluable asset to both students and colleagues alike.
