What is the Conference Track Meet?
The Conference Track Meet is the Track Team's last meet of the year. At this meet, every team in the conference comes to compete in all the events. The events include shot put, long jump, high jump, 7th grade 100 meters, 8th grade 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 1 mile, 4x100 relay, and 4x400 relay. It is an honor to compete in this meet. The best of the best with the best scores will get selected to compete in this meet. Only the top 3 competitors from each team can compete in every event. So if you’re not in the top 3 for at least one event, you can't compete, but you can watch from the stands. There are 8 teams in our conference: Lufkin, Apex, Apex Friendship, Fuquay-Varina, Herbert Atkins, West Lake, Holly Grove, and Holly Ridge.
How Did Lufkin Do in the meet?
As for how Lufkin did, we didn’t finish at the top, but we certainly held our ground and didn't come in last. We ended up in 5th place for both the boys' and girls' teams. In the girls' mile, we got 6th, 7th, and 9th. For the boys' mile, we got 2nd, 2nd to last, and 4th to last. The boys’ long jump was our best event, where Lufkin got 1st place! We did okay in most of the events, but we didn’t place as high in others, and that kind of pulled us down in the overall score. Even though we didn’t win, we still showed a lot of effort and did our best!
