Jeffreys Grove Elementary:

3rd grade:

Cultural Focus: Mexico - Geography, Indigenous people, Holidays

Topics: Greetings and Farewells, Numbers 1-30, Colors, Feeling/Emotions, Calendar Vocabulary, Weather, Family/Home,

Pets.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Students will research and learn about a variety of famous Hispanic people.

4th grade:

Cultural Focus: Mexico and Central America - Geography, Immigration to NC, Holidays

Topics: Review of Greetings/Farewells, Numbers 1-100, Colors, Feelings/ Emotions, Calendar Vocabulary,

Weather/Seasons, Clothing, Family, North Carolina and Landforms

Hispanic Heritage Month: Students will research and learn about a variety of famous Hispanic people.

5th grade:

Cultural Focus: South America - Geography, Indigenous people, Holidays

Topics: Review of Greetings/ Farewells, Numbers 1- 100+ , review of Colors, Feelings/Emotions, Calendar Vocabulary,

Review of Weather/ Seasons, Clothing, Family, Animals, Food, Time

Immersion classes:

Topic: El Mundo Hispano - A year long exploration into some of the Spanish speaking countries of the world.

Geography, Landforms, History, Indigenous People, Holidays, Foods, Traditional Clothing, Government, Religion,

Crafts, Customs and Traditions

Powell Elementary:

K-1 elective:

Kindergarten and First grade students will be introduced to basic Spanish vocabulary through activities, songs and

games.

Topics that will be covered during the elective are: Greetings/Farewells, Calendar Vocabulary, Weather,

Feeling/Emotions, Numbers 1-10, Colors, Family Vocabulary

2-3 elective:

Second and Third grade students will be introduced to basic Spanish vocabulary through activities, songs and

games.

Topics that will be covered during the elective are: Greetings/Farewells, Calendar Vocabulary, Weather,

Feeling/Emotions, Numbers 1-30, Colors, Family Vocabulary

Cultural Focus: El Mundo Hispano - South America - Geography, Customs and Traditions, Crafts

Culture:

Spanish speaking countries have a rich and diverse culture and history. As you learn a new language it is also important to learn some of the customs and traditions that are celebrated. We will not be celebrating any holiday, however we will explore, discuss and complete activities that reflect how holidays are celebrated in Hispanic countries.
