Letterland Sounds and Action Tricks:

In Letterland, Wake County's systematic phonics program, students are taught to put an action with each letter sound. This kinesthetic component activates the students memory and supports their recollection of the letter sound.

Letterland Roller Coaster Blending:

In Letterland, Wake County's systematic phonics program, students are taught to blend the sounds in words using their "roller coaster". To see how your student might do this, you can review the video to the below. Unfortunately, we were only able to find training videos for this technique. Please disregard the last thirty seconds of the video.

Letterland Rubber Band Segmenting:

In Letterland, Wake County's systematic phonics program, students are taught to segment, or break apart, the sounds in words using their "rubber band". This is used when your student will want to write words that are not sight words. To see how your student might do this, you can review the video to the below. Unfortunately, we were only able to find training videos for this technique. While the teacher uses a pocket chart and picture cards, you can practice with your student just writing the letters down as they "catch" them. This is a common practice in our classroom, so students will be comfortable with this idea. Please disregard the last twenty five seconds of the video.
