Mrs. Duryea currently serves as the Band Director at Salem Middle School and previously taught at Durant Road Middle and East Wake Middle. She started on clarinet in 6th grade at Davis Drive Middle. Her junior year of high school she accepted the position as Drum Major at in the Green Hope High School marching band. Because of her role in leading the ensembles and teaching music to others, she decided that was going to be her career. 

She attended Appalachian State University and there received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a concentration in Instrumental Music K-12.  She was on the Dean's List and graduated cum laude. Mrs. Duryea has worked with many of the middle and high school ensembles in Wake County and across the state of North Carolina and is excited to share what she has learned with the students at Salem Middle School. She has played with the Raleigh Concert band and the Triangle Wind Ensemble and performs on clarinet. She received her National Board Certification in Music Education in 2017.
