Our language comprehension stories this month include Same Same but Different, Town Mouse Country Mouse, Lily Learns About Wants and Needs, Wants Vs. Needs Food and Drink, The Rain Stomper, Snow, and Weather in Spring. Students will learn to identify the characters, settings and major events in a story. Students will build background knowledge and vocabulary as they explore acceptance of how people are alike and different in the ways we live and in the choices we make each day. Complete learning of all letterland characters to z “wh” sound, “ve” spelling pattern,“o” sound as in “son” Word Families- ap, an, at, ig, in, ip, op, ot, ock, un, ug, ut. et, ell, eck Students will learn about needs and wants to determine how people spend money and make financial decisions. We will look at the things people want that may not be the best things to meet their needs. They will also learn about people in our community and how they provide goods and services, In our second unit we will look at how people have changed over time and how events have changed history. Writing Math Upcoming Events Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to state an opinion or preference about the topic or book. Compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic. Write to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order in which they occurred, and with guidance and support. Know number names and the count sequence. • Count to tell the number of objects. • Compare numbers. • Understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from.
