Hispanic Heritage Month Summaries
Go to https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov and read any two of the articles under the Exhibitions and Collections tab. For each article, write one paragraph explaining the article's significance and what you've learned about (you should have two paragraphs total). When you're done, submit both the summaries and links to the article that you read to the Hours Submission Form on the website. This opportunity is only available during Hispanic Heritage Month and can earn you 1 service hour.
AllSides is a news site that collects stories from AllSides of the argument to ensure that you, the citizen and (future) voter, are getting the full story. For an enrichment hour, you will find a current event and read an article from the left, center, and right. Write paper (at least one page, 12 pt Times New Roman) when you are done and reflect on what you read. This counts as 1 service hour. Here are some guiding questions to help with your paper. ASP is a platform that creates short videos straight from elected officials to help simplify complicated political topics. Your task is to pick a topic and watch 7-10 videos about it. (Don't panic the videos are 1-10 minutes long.) After you watch your videos, make some sort of presentation to show your knowledge. You can make a Google Slides, poster, video, etc. This will count as 1 service hour. To watch videos go to their website: https://www.astartingpoint.com
Create a Google Slides presentation for one of these awareness months that will be presented at one of our meetings. Presentation must be at least 10 slides long (plus title slide). 1 enrichment hour per submission. Bonus service hour if you present your slides at the meeting
Create a poster to hang in the school that brings awareness to a topic of your choice. It can be handmade or made virtually but it must be informative! The topic must be school appropriate and relate to Social Studies. 1 service hour per poster.
Find a 30+ minutes long history or social studies documentary (through YouTube, Netflix, etc) and write a one page, MLA formatted report of a summary of what you learned. Include the link to the video on the page after your summary. 1 service hour per submission.
You may tutor your siblings, neighbors, cousins, etc. for up to three (3) hours. Per hour submission, please complete a brief one-paged MLA summary of what you taught them, how, etc. 1 service hour per session.
Create a Google Site or Weebly website that includes major history events or concepts. At the end, complete a 2 paragraph (at least 5 sentences each) of how the events impacted each other. Don't just say "it's a turning point in history", make it deeper than that. You earn 1 hour per 4 events.
Complete a game rated 6th grade or up under the history, USA, or geography subtitles and complete a one page, MLA formatted report about the game. After your report, submit a screenshot of the outcome of the game. 1/2 service hour per game.
Read an article posted on https://www.history.com/ or https://www.britannica.com/ and complete a one page, MLA formatted summary of the article. 1 service hour per submission.
Downtown Raleigh holds one of the country's best history museums! You may explore the exhibits for two credit hours! After your tour, write a one page, MLA formatted summary about your favorite exhibit, what you learned, etc. After your summary, include ten (10) pictures of your favorite parts of the museum. Max one per year. Either counts as two service hours or one enrichment hour.
Write a five paragraph report about your favorite president and why. Don't just say "He's cool" or "he helped America". Say a deep why. Maybe it's because he was born in your hometown. Maybe because he did something for immigrants that allowed your great-grandparents to immigrate to America. With your report, create a poster about the chosen president, either digital or on paper. 1 service hour per submission.
