RBMS Comprehensive School Counseling Program Overview
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), "School counselors design and deliver comprehensive school counseling programs that promote student achievement. These programs are comprehensive in scope, preventive in design and developmental in nature." The counseling program at River Bend Middle School is a collaborative effort between the school counselors, school psychologist, school social worker, school nurse, data manager, student services receptionist, teachers, administrators, parents and the community to promote student achievement and success.
Vision
RBMS counseling program believes that all students have the ability to succeed and have the right to a supportive educational environment that is safe, enriching, and values the uniqueness of all students. Resulting in students who can take full advantage of all available post-secondary options. With a focus on developing the student as a whole person, counselors support academic success and foster empathetic and authentic collaborative relationships between students, staff, and the community; resulting in a program that will produce empowered students who are resilient, productive, and career and college ready leaders in their communities and the world at large.
Mission
RBMS counseling program will facilitate the creation of an equitable and nurturing learning community by supporting students in their academic, personal/social, and career development. Using a multicultural framework and a school-community collaboration model, counselors will work to eliminate racial and/or socioeconomic inequities within our school. Counselors will serve as advocates for all students and parents by empowering students to reach their full potential and be career and college-ready, empathetic, and globally competent leaders in their communities.
