For many students, prom is the culmination of four years of hard work, an opportunity to celebrate their time together, a rite of passage into adulthood. Initially prom was held only for the graduating class with a formal banquet followed by a dance, but as time went on it metamorphosed into the inclusive dance event high-schools across the country hold annually. This year, 711 tickets to the Panther Creek prom were sold, including to people attending the event from another high school, of which there were many.
Along with the significance of the event itself comes food, drink, dancing, friends, pictures, and music. Over 70% of the students who went to prom would agree that being with their friends was the most enjoyable part of prom. Dancing, food, and pictures were the favorite of 10% of attendants each, but not a single student polled said that the music was the best part of the experience. DJ Fonz provided the music, but unfortunately for them, 76% of students said that they didn’t like the music at all.
Prom only lasted for two and a half hours, but for most students it took up much of their afternoon, evening and night. The typical schedule included getting ready in the afternoon from 3pm to 4pm, taking pictures, eating dinner, and then going to prom. A lot of students went to a party after prom as well, so many didn’t get home until the early hours of the morning.
Already, students are looking towards next year’s prom, with more than half of the juniors polled expressing a desire to attend the 2022-2023 prom. If you’re a student worried about going to prom without a date, fear not, over a quarter of the students who went did not have a date. If you had a chance to go to prom, hopefully you had a blast, and if not, hopefully you plan on attending next year!\
