About VIBE
About VIBE
VIBE is an opportunity for our students who identify as Black in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades to participate in affinity groups. Our students have chosen the name VIBE for our program. The acronym recognizes our students’ work: Valuing Identity & Building Empowerment. VIBE connects students and helps them explore their strengths, interests, and hopes, while celebrating their uniqueness and shared identities.
VIBE began in 2022 with the recognition that Black students at Alston Ridge Elementary School were reporting different school experiences influenced by their racial identity. We are committed to examining these experiences and ensuring that every student is seen, heard, and feels important in school. Conversations between Black students’ families and faculty have highlighted the need for stronger connections. VIBE is a safe space to build community and relationships. Participation in VIBE is optional.
We will invite you into partnership to help us reduce the impact of structural racism in our community and protect equal opportunity for all students.
